Secretary Report AGM 2025

 Unfortunately, after three years of standing as Secretary for the LAA, I have made the decision to resign from the position to allow me to spend more time fulfilling other commitments.

I was unexpectedly invited to take the role of secretary after winning the 2022 LAA Writer of the Year award, as well as placing in several of the annual competitions that year. After some hesitation, I said yes. As someone who would describe themselves as shy and not very confident in public settings, the thought of taking on the role was quite frankly terrifying!

The committee were very welcoming and I received a lot of support in learning the role. I have learned many new skills and my self-confidence has significantly improved. Although I will be taking a step back from the committee, I will continue to be a member and will attend some member meetings.

Being part of such a unique historic association has been a really special experience and something I would encourage others to consider. Anyone interested in learning more about the secretary role can contact Olive for a job description.

Publicity Officer Report 2025

  The past year our meetings continued as pre-pandemic with one exception; now we have a regular Zoom Meeting in September and three face to face meetings. We retained the September Zoom Meeting because it enables us to book speakers from farther afield and gives an opportunity for members to join in when unable to attend in person.   Sadly the meeting held in September 2024 was poorly attended, disappointing for both committee and guest speaker. As Publicity Officer, I am always on the lookout for someone special and perhaps a little famous if possible for this meeting. Suggestions from members are always welcome. We are hoping to become more inclusive as an association and have made contact with various other groups who are a part of Lancashire’s varied History.
