Letter from the President
Letter from the President
A Happy New Year to you all and welcome to 2025 and, as I enter my 8th year as your President, I’ve sadly not got a lot to report. Total numbers entering our competitions still seem to be growing slowly but steadily, and membership is holding its own. We have gained two new members from California, perfectly illustrating that the words “Lancashire” and “Authors” are not meant to be restrictive – anyone with an interest in literature and history of our County will be welcome.
Sadly our comparatively new Secretary, Sarah Robin, has had to relinquish her post due to changes in her circumstances. It is a difficult post to fill but Sarah, in her time, was a breath of fresh air who also brought the average age of the committee down by several decades! We have already started to find a replacement so, anyone out there, with suitable experience and who fancies a new challenge, get in touch with Olive Riley who, as ever will still be there to guide the new incumbent through the various processes involved.
Our next public performance will be at this year’s “What’s Your Story Chorley?” a day long annual event supported by Chorley Council to promote the spoken word. This year to be held on Saturday 29th March and usually featuring stories and poetry performed in Chorley Theatre and the Central Library.
Hopefully I will see you there, either next to me on the stage or in the audience.
All the Best
Sid Calderbank
